I beat the Balrog. So, now I'll give all you 3rd Age players a few tips. (Wow, I make it sound like a bunch of people read my LJ!)

1. On Gandalf's first turn, use Shadow Defense. You'll die if you don't. After that, keep using Bolt of Valor until drained, then use drain on Balrog.

2. Use party heals/party AP heals (I think it's called "Leaves of Toby") with two other characters, and "Gift of Galadriel" with the elf. If you don't have "Gift of Galadriel" then just have her of Toby Leaves too.

3. If you're good on health and AP, have the fighter use Citadel Defense and the dwarf use Mountain Might for the double effect, an if you get the chance, use a wounding attack for a bit of extra damage now and then.

4. If you haven't been leveling your special attacks, then THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU! You might make it with just healing and Gandalf, but get hit by his pillar attack too much and...

Well, that should work. He has 70,000 HP. Approximately 20 turns with just Gandalf, due to need of Shadow Defense. It took me 15 with the other characters attacking sometimes.
